Beside the pieve of Santa Maria Assunta stands the Romanesque baptistery of San Giovanni, twelfth-century: two separate buildings, church and baptistery, as was once the custom. The church of the Madonna della Neve, in the hamlet of Marzalesco, is of the same age.
The fields around were long a country of potatoes and onions, so much so that an onion carries the town's name: the blonde onion of Cureggio and Fontaneto, a Slow Food presidium. Part of the comune falls within the Baragge nature reserve.
