Saint Alexander, patron of the land of the Torre del Mirasole
📅 Every year, on the first Sunday of August
Fontaneto d'Agogna celebrates Saint Alexander on the first Sunday of August.
The name comes from the Latin fontana with the collective suffix -etum: springs are many here, and the water is carried on the arms too, which show the two torrents and five gushing springs. One of them, the fountain of San Martino, was traditionally an object of devotion.
On 20 September 1944 fascist forces sacked and set fire to much of the hamlet of Cacciana: fifty-four farmhouses and homes were destroyed and most of the livestock killed. The hamlet was rebuilt quickly, and at the northern entrance to the town a monument by a local artist recalls the fire. In 2025 the comune received the medal for civil valour.
