Feast of Sant'Agapito
📅 Every year, on 18 August
On 18 August Maggiora, a municipality of 1,742 inhabitants in the province of Novara, celebrates its patron Sant'Agapito.
Maggiora is a village in the hills near Novara, and for a good part of the last century its name travelled through sport. From 1946 to 1974 the Balmone climb gave its name to a professional road race run on the streets of the village: Bartali, Coppi, Fornara, Gimondi and Merckx were among the winners.
In 1963 the local sports union levelled a motocross track at the Mottaccio del Balmone; it became Maggiora Park, which has hosted the Motocross des Nations three times. The Sport Club later opened the Pragiarolo, Italy's first permanent autocross ground. Among the houses stands the eighteenth-century church of the Holy Spirit.
