Gattico-Veruno is a new comune: it was born on the first of January 2019 from the merger of Gattico and Veruno, with its seat at Gattico. The coat of arms puts together the elements of the two earlier ones.
The merger went through in spite of the consultative referendum. No quorum was required, and in both towns abstention won: among the thirty-six per cent of those entitled who did vote, the no prevailed, but given the small number of votes against, the process was carried on anyway. The land is hilly, between the Ticino and Agogna valleys, under broadleaf woods, meadows and vines.
