Landiona

Province: Novara · Region: Piedmont · Population: 590 · Postal code: 28064

The coat of arms carries the tower called del Tega, the monumental entrance to the castle that Paolo Caccia had built around 1280, and a wavy blue band for the watercourse the village stretches along. The castle was not only the lord's house: it served as granary and store, and its rectangular wall opens only to the east.

Outside the village, among the rice fields, stands the oratory of Santa Maria dei Campi: a portico of three arches on columns, with MARIA MATER DIVINAE GRATIAE running along the architrave. Above the door is a frescoed lunette, and a bell-cote with an onion dome rises from the gable.
