Vicolungo

Province: Novara · Region: Piedmont · Population: 883 · Postal code: 28060

Vicolungo, Vich Longh in Piedmontese, is a village on the plain of Novara. In Roman times the via delle Gallie ran through it, the consular road built under Augustus to link the Po plain with Gaul. In the hamlet of Gargarengo, on the left of the Busca irrigation channel, stands the Torre di Gargarengo estate.

In the middle of the village stands the Sforza castle, a block of bare brick closed at the top by a band of machicolations on corbels; the windows are few and pointed, and a turret rises from the roof. A yellow plastered wing leans against it, with an arched carriage door and a small balcony above.
