On 8 August Recetto, a municipality of 916 inhabitants in the province of Novara, celebrates its patron Saint Dominic (san Domenico).
Recetto is named for what it was. In the Middle Ages a ricetto was a defended place for free peasants, without castle or garrison, which the bishop-counts of the year one thousand allowed to be built. More than a fortress it was a store: wine barrels stood inside, grain was heaped there, a farmers' consortium before its time.
The arms are party per fess: above, a green tree on silver; below, a gold castle on red. At the edge of the village stands the little church of Santa Maria: in front the plastered wall, its round eye and tiled slope, behind a wall of river cobbles broken off in mid-air.
