Feast of San Martino
📅 Every year, on the first Sunday of August
On the first Sunday of August Arborio, a municipality of 909 inhabitants in the province of Vercelli, celebrates its patron San Martino.
The first mention of Arborio dates from 999, in a diploma of Otto III in favour of Leone, bishop of Vercelli. The land is flat, held between the Sesia and the Marchiazza stream, and rice governs it: a variety of the grain carries the village's name, Arborio.
The parish church of San Martino is round in plan and has five altars; it was designed by Michele Richiardi and built in 1769, while the bell tower, signed by Nicola Nervi, came seventeen years later. The arms the comune once used showed three green poplars on gold, the middle one taller and wider than the others.
