Sillavengo

Sillavengo — Silavengh in Piedmontese — is a small village in the province of Novara, the kind you cross in two minutes. Its centre is a paved square, closed at the sides by low houses with tiled roofs, opening in front of the parish church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.

The front is plastered pink with white pilasters: a dentilled pediment, a round oculus in the gable, an arched window above the door and, at the three corners, stone finials topped with iron crosses. In the middle of the square stands the war memorial between two flower beds; to one side a narrow lane slips between the houses.
