Saint Syrus, patron of the land of the medieval gate
📅 Every year, on 9 December
Paruzzaro celebrates Saint Syrus on 9 December, in the church dedicated to him.
The name has two readings. Some link it to paluciarius, a palisade, and to an origin on piles; others to the Piedmontese word parussina, meaning great tit, reading it as a place full of great tits.
In old documents the village is repeatedly called longobardorum, for its close tie with the Lombards; under the Franks it fell within the county of Pombia. In 1928 it took in two villages, Montrigiasco and Oleggio Castello, and ended up losing both: Oleggio Castello became a commune again in 1948, and Montrigiasco passed to Arona in 1960.
