In Piedmontese the village is La Badìa, the abbey, and the name fits: at its centre is the abbey of Saints Nazarius and Celsus, among the greatest monastic houses of Piedmont. A wall with round corner turrets encloses a tall Romanesque bell tower, a Lombard Gothic church with rose window and pointed doorway, and a cloister frescoed in the fifteenth century with the life of Saint Benedict.
Part of the territory lies in the Lame del Sesia nature park, where the Sesiella rises. A long tree-lined avenue ends at the sanctuary of the Madonna della Fontana. A half-buried old ice house survives, where natural ice was gathered for the sick poor in summer.
