Feast of San Giorgio
📅 Every year, on the last Sunday of April
On the last Sunday of April Terdobbiate, a municipality of 500 inhabitants in the province of Novara, celebrates its patron San Giorgio.
Terdobbiate takes its name from the Terdoppio stream. On the map of the Duchy of Milan in the Gallery of Maps at the Vatican Palaces, dated 1581, the village appears as Fordobbio. Its coat of arms carries a green two-legged dragon breathing red fire, and below it a mount of three peaks.
The castle of the Cicogna counts goes back to the tenth century but grew in stages: two cylindrical towers with tile-covered cornices mark the plastered front, and it is now a private house. The parish church of Saints George and Maurice was rebuilt in the nineteen-fifties over a sixteenth-century church, of which only the seventeenth-century bell tower is left.
