Tornaco

Province: Novara · Region: Piedmont · Population: 876 · Postal code: 28070

Tornaco is named before 969, when the oratory of Sant'Eusebio changed hands in an exchange between Aupaldo, bishop of Novara, and one Austreverto who already bore the name of the village. The parish church of Santa Maria Maddalena goes back to the twelfth century; a late sixteenth-century visitation found three aisles, then two chapels and two lesser aisles were added, and today there are five.

On the knoll where the castle stood, of which little more than the keep survived, the engineer Luigi Marzoni raised a manor house in 1896. It now holds the town library and the museum of the Novara lowlands, with the tools and objects of work in the fields.
