Burolo

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,228 · Postal code: 10010

Burolo lies east of Ivrea, on the Canavese variant of the via Francigena, heading on to Bollengo. The parish church of Santi Pietro e Paolo was built in 1716, replacing an older religious building of 1193: its plastered front has a pediment with an iron cross, pinnacles at the corners, a balustrade along the sides and an oval medallion over the door.

Outside the village the Romanesque Maddalena chapel was raised on a large erratic boulder; the Madonnina chapel, of 1675, was built onto an existing votive pillar, and that of San Rocco, along the main road in, came from a vow during a fifteenth-century plague.
