Caselette

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 2,931 · Postal code: 10040

The name comes from late Latin casella, a hut, with a diminutive suffix added: there was probably a little cluster of shepherds' cottages here. At the foot of the Musinè, in the nineteen-sixties, the remains of a Roman villa came to light, dug from the following decade on.

The lakes of Caselette are now one: the Lago Superiore, the smaller of the two, slowly silted up. The castle of the counts Cays, which commands the valley, belonged for years to the Salesians and housed scout groups; in 2015 it was bought to become first a luxury hotel and then private flats.
