Collegno

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 49,083 · Postal code: 10093

Two utopias live in Collegno. The first is Savoyard: the Royal Charterhouse, the seventeenth-century monastery with Juvarra designs, later became a psychiatric hospital and is now a cultural park where that memory has turned into public space. The second is industrial: the Leumann Village, the garden city a Swiss entrepreneur built between 1875 and 1907 for his textile workers — cottages, school and Art Nouveau station, a preserved one-off.

On the Dora river, tied to Turin by metro, Collegno is a suburb that managed to become social history worth visiting.
