Pramollo

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 242 · Postal code: 10065

Pramollo has no centre: it is hamlets scattered over both slopes of the Risagliardo, the torrent dropping from the Grand Truc to the Chisone at San Germano, with the town hall in one of them, the borgata Lussie. In 1573 the whole village went over to the Reformed faith, and its story since is that of the Waldensian community. Suppressed as a comune in 1927 and joined to San Germano Chisone, it returned in 1954.

In the mid-nineteenth century the community spent its whole savings, eighty thousand francs from the common woods and pastures, on an elliptical temple nicknamed the Rotonda, which proved unsound and was pulled down; the new one, opened in 1888, reused four of its columns and its pulpit. The Catholic church of San Maurizio, bought by the Waldensians, had meanwhile become a school, and the hamlets still keep General Beckwith's little schools, the one at Pellenchi now a museum of schooling.
