Pinasca

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 3,049 · Postal code: 10060

The name first appears in a document of 720 signed by Abbo, founder of the abbey of Novalesa, which mentions some estates held in the valley called "Dubiasca". The comune has twenty-seven hamlets — the largest is Dubbione — and is the widest in the middle Val Chisone.

In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries the town was caught in the wars between Catholics and Waldensians, who had built a temple of their own at Podio in 1571. When the Waldensians had to emigrate to Germany, in memory of the welcome they had found here they gave the name Pinasca to a village they founded.
