Quincinetto

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,048 · Postal code: 10010

The via delle Gallie, the consular road Augustus built to link the Po plain to Gaul, passed here, at the mouth of the Aosta valley. Water was fought over: from 1539 Quincinetto and Tavagnasco quarrelled over a ditch, and in 1547 the mill canal ran dry because Quincinetto had dammed the river and tampered with the intake by night.

The Montellina spring still feeds the seven village fountains and the municipal aqueduct; it once turned the washhouses and the forges, where coins were struck too. Above the roofs stands the parish church of the Santissimo Salvatore, rebuilt in the late baroque, its yellow front in two orders, the stone clock tower beside it.
