Quassolo

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 359 · Postal code: 10010

In Piedmontese it is Coasseul d'Ivrèja, to keep it apart from Coasseul d'Ast and Coasseul ëd Turin; in the töitschu of Issime it is Quazüal. The village climbs a rocky spur, castle on top, between Monte Cavallaria and the Dora Baltea plain, crossed by the via delle Gallie Augustus opened.

It began as that castle alone, built by Ivrea around 1228 to hold the road to France against the lords of Montestrutto, allies of rival Vercelli. It is the valley's only comune with land on both banks of the Dora, and San Gregorio, the old parish church long disputed with Baio, stands inside them. From 1929 to 1954 it was a hamlet of Borgofranco.
