Settimo Vittone

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,543 · Postal code: 10010

Settimo Vittone lies in the valley of the Dora Baltea, and the via delle Gallie passed here, the consular road Augustus had built to link the Po plain with Gaul. The comune gathers the main village and the hamlets of Montestrutto, Cesnola and Torre Daniele, while Trovinasse stays high up; to the east the Colma di Mombarone closes it off towards Biella and the Aosta Valley.

Above the village stands the pieve of San Lorenzo: the polygonal baptistery, grey stone banded with red brick, and a small bell tower rising over its roof of stone slabs. The organist and composer Pietro Alessandro Yon was born here in 1886.
