Saint Bernard of Menthon, patron of the land of the Cresseglio wash-house
📅 Every year, on 12 June
Arizzano celebrates Saint Bernard of Menthon on 12 June, in the church dedicated to him.
It is the smallest commune of its province and the third least extensive in all Piedmont, which has not stopped it growing and shrinking again and again. In 1723 four neighbouring villages asked to be joined to Arizzano, and after nearly two centuries they left; then came Bee and Vignone, which took their independence back in 1948.
The church of San Bernardo is late Baroque, but inside it is lined with modern mosaics, floor included: don Italo De Cesari, parish priest from 1954, wanted them and made them. A pupil of his, Walter Ferrarini, made the mosaic in the square of the former town hall, out of stones, old bricks, ceramics, marbles, granites, Venetian enamels and gold.
