Ceppo Morelli stands in the Anzasca valley, on the left bank of the Anza where the Tignaga joins it; the hamlets of Campioli and Case Opaco follow that stream. The comune was created in 1866 by merging Prequartera and Borgone d'Ossola, two communities self-governing since the sixteenth century, and it remains the smallest in the valley by area and population.
Mondelli, the highest hamlet, was once reached only by mule track. There Giovanni Jacchetti, who emigrated to France and grew rich on glass and mirrors, had a manor house built: outside, the arms of Bordeaux; inside, a dining room lined with mirrors, on the model of Versailles.
