Above the hamlet of Villa dell'Oro, at Lorgino, lie the only outcrops of dolomitic limestone in the area: the marble of Crevola. It went into Milan cathedral and above all into Pavia's, so much so that in 1518 the Pavia cathedral works bought three quarries here and had a road built down to the Toce; from there the stone travelled by Lake Maggiore and the Ticino.
The quarries stayed in use afterwards, and in 1811 the columns of Milan's Arco della Pace came out of them. The comune as it stands today dates from 1929, when Crevola, Preglia and Caddo, until then separate, were put together.
