Montecrestese

Province: Verbano-Cusio-Ossola · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,255 · Postal code: 28864

Montecrestese has no real centre: it is a scattered comune of small hamlets spread over a territory that takes in the whole Isorno valley, on the left bank of the upper Toce. The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta stands in the hamlet simply called Chiesa; it was built between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries over an older church and keeps many frescoes.

The bell tower stands apart, a little further on, on a rise in the ground: sixty-seven and a half metres, the tallest in the Ossola after Calasca's, which beats it by a few centimetres. It is the village's emblem. Another old tower rises in the hamlet of Roldo.
