The patroness of Santa Maria Maggiore is Maria Santissima Assunta (Assumption of Mary), celebrated on 15 August.
Giovanni Paolo Feminis, born in 1666 in Crana, a hamlet of the municipality, is considered the inventor of Eau de Cologne; he was a benefactor of several works in the Valle Vigezzo, including the building of the parish church of Santa Maria Maggiore and of the church of Crana. The municipality also holds the Museo dello Spazzacamino.
