Lenta

Province: Vercelli · Region: Piedmont · Population: 878 · Postal code: 13035

Lenta speaks mostly through its buildings. The pieve of Santo Stefano, in a mown meadow, has walls of river pebbles in even courses banded with brick, apses ringed by small arches and a square bell tower with paired windows.

The village keeps the church of San Pietro, the bell tower, the ricetto and the castle of the Benedictine nuns, once a convent; the territory touches the Baragge nature reserve. Among the rice fields, inside a military compound, the army stacks nearly three thousand retired armoured vehicles, one of the largest collections in Europe.
