Sizzano

Province: Novara · Region: Piedmont · Population: 1,446 · Postal code: 28070

Sizzano is an old village; the documents call it Sitianum, Siccianum, Sectianum. A stone set into the parish church front is written on both faces: a Roman inscription says Tito Tullio Maggiore had an existing bath repaired; the other side, cut much later, is the epitaph of a noble girl who lived one year, ten months and twenty-three days.

In 840 bishop Adalgisio gave the tithe of Sizzano to Novara cathedral; paid in wine, it lasted until 1974. In 1780 marquis Tornielli had a very old elm cut down: it served as the public notice board but shaded his garden. In exchange he paid for the Madonna del Rosario statue that still faces the road.
