Olcenengo

Province: Vercelli · Region: Piedmont · Population: 754 · Postal code: 13047

The first document naming Olcenengo dates from 964, when Ingone, bishop of Vercelli, restored the old custom of baptising children before the altar of Sant'Eusebio. The village belonged to the Avogadro, who started here the branch of the Avogadro di Olcenengo and built the castle in the thirteenth century; now swallowed by a farmstead, it keeps a tower and a few stretches of wall.

The parish church of Santi Quirico e Giulitta, enlarged in 1880, sets its scrolled front beside the clock tower. The route of the Via Francigena crosses the territory, coming from Santhià and San Germano Vercellese and going on to Vercelli.
