Quinto Vercellese

Province: Vercelli · Region: Piedmont · Population: 400 · Postal code: 13030

Quinto Vercellese lies among the rice fields of the Vercelli province. The Avogadro castle enters the records in 1219, when a chapel of San Pietro is mentioned: it still stands, under frescoes layered from the thirteenth century to the sixteenth. Enlarged in the Renaissance, it changed trade when rice took the fields and became a large farm.

The parish church of Santi Nazario e Celso is recorded already in 964. Three phases show on its front: the central part, built of Roman bricks and river pebbles, is pre-Romanesque; the left aisle is Romanesque, the right one Gothic. The bell tower, late Romanesque, rose around 1466. Among the medieval frescoes a saint reads with spectacles.
