Outside the town stands Ognissanti di Cuti, an eleventh-century church built in every part on the proportions of the golden section: three naves, half-barrel vaults at the sides, pyramid domes. In 1737, when the abbey around it was pulled down, they closed it; today it reopens for feast days.
The name may come from the root balt, marsh — three streams run through the territory — or from Valentianum, the estate of a Valens; legend instead tells of a Greek fleeing the Saracens around 845, which is why a soldier stands on the coat of arms. Today Valenzano, 17,897 residents, houses Tecnopolis, the Mediterranean agronomic institute and Bari's veterinary faculty.

Valenzano celebrates Saint Roch on 16 August; on Good Friday, the impressive Procession of the Mysteries is held, which since 2022 has included around 52 statue groups, among them a Crucified Christ venerated for centuries for a historic miracle.
