Saint Eustace, patron of Ischitella
📅 Every year, on 20 May
Ischitella celebrates Saint Eustace on 20 May.
On the Folicara stream is the lowest beech wood in the south: beech usually grows above six hundred metres, here it grows at a hundred and sixty. From the village you can see the lake of Varano and the Tremiti, and on clear days the coast of Molise and, on the other side, the Dalmatian one.
Pietro Giannone was born here, and the national prize for poetry in the dialects of Italy that the village has run since 2004 is named after him. Ischitella is in the Gargano park and, with Rodi and Vico, makes the citrus of the Gargano, oranges and femminiello lemons. The earthquake of 1646 cost it eighty-six dead.
