The patron of Mamoiada is the Blessed Virgin of the Assumption, celebrated on 15 August.
The town is renowned for the historic Carnevale di Mamoiada (Harrasehare Mamujadinu), in February or March, and for its masks: the Mamuthones and Issohadores make their first appearance every 17 January, for the Feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot, known as «Sant'Antoni e su fogu» for the great bonfires lit as in many Sardinian and Mediterranean towns. The masks return on the second Sunday of July in honour of Saint Sebastian, for the Madonna del Carmelo at the end of July, and for the summer Carnival. Next come the Madonna della Neve on the first weekend of August and Saints Cosmas and Damian on 26 and 27 September. The town hosts the Museo delle Maschere Mediterranee (Museum of Mediterranean Masks) and holds the Domus de janas di Sironi.
