Osidda

Province: Nuoro · Region: Sardinia · Population: 230 · Postal code: 08020

In the territory of Osidda stands a menhir some ten metres tall, Sa Perda Longa de Santu Paulu: a stone planted in the Neolithic and never fallen. Not far off lie the ruins of a Roman settlement identified with Ogrilla, where coins and other objects have been found. The Sardinian spoken in the village is northern Logudorese, but with a few words of the Nuoro dialects inside it.

In the Middle Ages it belonged to the giudicato of Torres, in the curatoria of Monte Acuto, and around 1350 it passed to the Aragonese. From then on the municipality had two separate masters: the village went into the duchy of Monte Acuto of the Tellez-Giron, while in 1767 the salti, the valleys around the built-up area, were detached and made into the county of San Giovanni for the Fulgheri. The two parts were bought back separately, but in the same year, 1839.
