3 August is the feast of Tonara's patron, San Gabriele: it lasts three days and reaches its peak with the parade, for the religious services, of the splendid traditional costumes; the municipality holds the Chiesa di San Gabriele.
The Sagra del Torrone (nougat festival), established in 1979 to commemorate the poet Peppino Mereu, was originally held on the second Sunday of July and has been moved to the Easter weekend, to promote nougat, the flagship product of the Mandrolisai centre. Since 1984 it has been joined by the Campanaccio d'oro, a challenge between the craftsmen of the village: Tonara is known, besides nougat, for its cattle bells.
