Baressa

Province: Oristano · Region: Sardinia · Population: 723 · Postal code: 09090

Baressa is in the Marmilla, and it is known for two things: the almond trees, a great many of them, which have their sagra at the end of August, and the «portali», the great entrance gateways of the houses. In the country three nuraghi are left, Molas, Monte Majore and su Sensu, and the speech is western Campidanese.

In the middle ages the village belonged to the giudicato of Arborea; after the defeat of 1410 it fell into the county of Quirra, fief of the Carroz, which in 1603 became a marquisate of the Centelles, and then passed to the Osorio: it bought itself free in 1839. In 1927 the comune of Baradili was joined to Baressa, and took its autonomy back in 1945.
