Setzu

Province: South Sardinia · Region: Sardinia · Population: 144 · Postal code: 09029

Setzu too is among the smallest comuni in Sardinia by area, and part of its territory lies on the Giara, the rocky tableland above the Marmilla. The houses are the Campidanese kind: you come in through a gate that opens onto the courtyard, and the house itself stands opposite, with the lolla, the loggia, in front of it.

The village passed from the Judicate of Arborea to the Aragonese when the judicate fell, in 1420, and from there from fief to fief: the Carroz, the Centelles, the Osorio, until 1839, when the inhabitants bought themselves out from the last feudal lord. Among the August feasts there is one that says a great deal about a village of a few hundred people: the feast of the emigrant.
