On 24 September Mirto celebrates Saint Thecla of Iconium; the village also hosts the Museum of Sicilian Costume and Fashion.
Local tradition classifies Mirto as one of the "quattru paisi di li funci"—the four mushroom towns—alongside the nearby communities of Frazzanò, Longi, and Galati Mamertino.
Located in the Metropolitan City of Messina, about 70 kilometers west of the provincial capital, this municipality of 1,000 inhabitants borders Capo d'Orlando, Naso, and San Salvatore di Fitalia.
