In the last week of September pilgrims come to Mojo for the Signuruzzu, the wooden crucifix carved around 1630 by friar Umile da Petralia. In the same days the fair is held, one of the last cattle fairs in Sicily, where you can still find tools no longer sold anywhere else.
The town dates from 1602, when Palmerio Lanza obtained licence to settle the fief; from 1928 to 1947 it was joined with Malvagna in the comune of Lanza, as Lanza Inferiore. It lies at the foot of Monte Mojo, a spent cone of Etna, and lives on peaches: the plain is full of water, and in August there is the sagra. There are 756 residents.

Moio Alcantara celebrates Saint Joseph the Worker on the second Sunday of May, but the more deeply felt feast is that of the Most Holy Crucifix in September: a wooden crucifix carved around 1630 by Friar Umile da Petralia, «il Signuruzzu», venerated by the town.
