The town owes its name to Saint Domenica, a Calabrian martyr killed during the Roman Christian persecutions under Emperor Diocletian. Perched at 1,080 meters above sea level within the Nebrodi Natural Park, this high-altitude settlement of 1,067 residents overlooks the northern Etna Valley, located seven kilometers north of Randazzo.
Sitting right on the boundary line between two provinces creates an unusual anomaly. Although Santa Domenica Vittoria belongs administratively to the Metropolitan City of Messina, bordering mountain towns like Floresta and Montalbano Elicona, it relies on the Catania area code for its telephone network due to its close ties with the Etna region.
