Malvagna lies in the Alcantara river valley, positioned between Mount Etna and Monte Mojo. Located 50 kilometres southwest of Messina and roughly 150 kilometres east of Palermo, it forms part of the Metropolitan City of Messina.
Home to nearly 800 residents, the municipality borders Castiglione di Sicilia, Francavilla di Sicilia, Mojo Alcantara, Montalbano Elicona, and Roccella Valdemone in eastern Sicily.
