In a town of a thousand people there is a seed bank: the living bank of plant germplasm, with its Garden of Simples, where medicinal plants and old fruit varieties on the verge of disappearing are kept alive. It is named after Bernardino da Ucria, the botanist born here in 1739.
The town lies between 710 and 790 metres in the Nebrodi, and its main street is a balcony over the mountains. From Arab times remain the traces of two towers and of the tunnels that ran from them; from the twentieth century remains the thread to Waltham, Massachusetts, where many people of Ucria ended up. There are 1,105 residents.
