Around 1350 the people of San Piero took the castle and killed the baron Orioles. Six years later king Frederick IV came to see for himself: he stayed in the castle from 6 to 9 December 1356, and on the 11th he signed the act that took the town from its feudal lords and passed it to the royal demesne.
Every August that visit is re-enacted in costume, between the Castello and Arabite quarters — and Arabite says for itself who lived there: the Saracens, who came up along the Timeto, which rises just above. The town was called San Pietro sopra Patti until 1912, stands at 440 metres and climbs to the 1,267 of Monte Uomo Morto. There are 3,082 residents.

San Piero Patti celebrates Saint Blaise on the first Sunday of October, although the liturgical date is 3 February: the feast was moved because winter weather made it impossible to organise, and in autumn the thriving local hazelnut trade was already being celebrated.
