Historically recorded under the names Raccuia and Raccuglia, the Sicilian municipality of Raccuja today has a population of 1,139 within the Metropolitan City of Messina.
Located roughly 60 kilometres west of Messina and 140 kilometres east of Palermo, the municipality shares its borders with neighbouring towns including Floresta, Montalbano Elicona, San Piero Patti, Sant'Angelo di Brolo, Sinagra, and Ucria.

On 21 September Raccuja celebrates the Annunciation with a week of preparation made of prayer and local Marian songs; in the afternoon the statue, covered in a golden mantle, is carried in procession through the streets of the village.
