The patron of Bagheria is Saint Joseph, and his cult in the town runs deep. The feast, however, is not held in March: the solemn ceremonies fall on the first Sunday of August, even though Saint Joseph's day is 19 March.
The religious celebrations in August are accompanied by public shows that run through the whole week before the Sunday, and close with the traditional fireworks on the Monday evening. The other big feast of the area is that of Maria Addolorata, patroness of the seaside village of Aspra, on 15 September.
