The patron saint of Bompietro is Our Lady of Grace, celebrated on 25 and 26 August. The feast is preceded by the traditional fifteen-day novena, during which the statue of the Madonna, carried in procession by women on a small litter, travels for fifteen days through the town's various districts, hosted in turn in the homes of the faithful. On 25 August, the eve of the feast, the statue of the Mother of Graces is carried in procession through the main streets together with the fine wooden statue of Saint Joseph and that of the Holy Crucifix, accompanied by the confraternities and civil and religious authorities; on 26 August the solemn procession of the Madonna through most of the town is repeated.
The territory of Bompietro was granted in 1400, along with many other fiefs, to the Spanish Ferrandina family, who ceded the lands to peasants to reclaim them, having a small church built for them and endowed with the fief of «Donna Morosa». At that time the peasants lived in caves carved into the sandstone ground, some of which are still visible in the district of Salerna; only around 1500 did they begin building the first permanent houses on the land they worked.
