Resuttano

Province: Caltanissetta · Region: Sicily · Population: 2,139 · Postal code: 93010

In 1337 king Frederick II of Aragon stopped at the castle of Resuttano and dictated his will there: out of those wishes came the war of the Four Vicars, which split Sicily between the Chiaramonte and the Ventimiglia.

The castle is what remains of the Rahàl-Suptanum, the fortified farm on the river from which the name comes. The town itself dates from 7 June 1627: Giuseppe di Napoli set it up for his son Gerolamo, and the first settlers — people from the Madonie — gathered around his farmstead. In 1650 there were 404 of them, in 115 families. Today Resuttano is a piece of the province of Caltanissetta wedged among the Palermo comuni, at 600 metres. There are 2,139 residents.
