In spring, near the sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Olio, a field turns red with wild tulips: a flowering that lasts only days and draws people from all over Sicily. The sanctuary is very old — it is mentioned as early as the twelfth century — and the present church is eighteenth-century.
The name appears for the first time in 1211, in a document speaking of the «Proedia Buluph apud Petraliam», the holdings of Buluf near Petralia; then it becomes Belufi, Balufi, Bolufi, and finally Blufi. The town was in fact a hamlet of Petralia Soprana until 1972. On the Imera, towards Petralia Sottana, stands a Romanesque bridge with three arches. There are 1,083 residents.
