Feast of Saint Agatha
📅 Every year, on 14 September and 5 February
On 14 September Montemaggiore Belsito celebrates Saint Agatha, the patron to whom the town's basilica is also dedicated; the town celebrates her again on 5 February.
The road running north of Montemaggiore Belsito has an unusual claim to fame: it forms part of the Targa Florio route, one of the oldest motor races on earth, and still hosts rally stages today. The town itself — Muntimajuri in Sicilian — sits at 517 metres in the hills of the Metropolitan City of Palermo, close to Cerda and Termini Imerese.
Repopulated in the thirteenth century by farmers from the Madonie mountains, it was made a marquisate by Philip II of Spain in 1598. Around 3,500 people live here now, among several churches and a noble palace in a centre partly reshaped by the landslide of 1851.
