Forty kilometres southeast of Palermo, Sciara covers 31.2 square kilometres of agricultural land in northwestern Sicily. Home to 2,787 residents, this municipality borders Termini Imerese, Cerda, Caccamo, and Aliminusa.
The local economy relies on traditional farming, centered on artichokes, tomatoes, and olives. Economic hardship during the 1970s and 1980s triggered heavy emigration to northern Italy, Germany, and the United States, leaving various empty properties that remain in the hands of former locals.
